Beginner Poi with The Pyroneer

The Pyroneer presents a 4 week beginner Poi workshop series in Calgary this February and March. The workshops will be held in the upper studio of Evolved Movement Arts. This series will cost $100 per student.

In this series will start with the fundamentals of Poi movement and direction. You will also learn key terminology and principals. Over the 4 weeks, we will progress through some foundational Poi moves.

The Pyroneer is a fire performer and flow arts instructor based in Calgary, Alberta. He specializes in Poi, but also spins Staff and Hoops. The Pyroneer is a prolific collaborator and has worked with aGoGo, The Pyroflys, Zero Gravity Circus, The New Model Circus Army, Red Pepper Spectacle Arts, Kinshira, MythMaker and many more. He was also Shin for The New Model Circus Army Conclave at Burning Man from 2015-2017. The Pyroneer coached with The Circus Academy and teaches Poi independently, and at various festivals and events around North America. He has also produced two flow festivals and various events around Canada. His love of the flow arts has been a guiding force in his life for over 20 years.

Weekly Breakdown: This is a rough breakdown of the weekly content. This will be adjusted depending on the groups progress, and interests.

Week 1. Timing and direction. Plane control. Weaves and butterflies. 

Week 2. More weaves and butterfly variations. 

Week 3. Now in the other direction. Reverse Weaves. Turns. 

Week 4. The fountain. Groups choice.
